What can I bring with me?
Your Bible or other related reading material or you may borrow a book from the Holy Trinity library. If you use a tablet for reading, be sure it is on silent.
A rosary - if you forget it or you don’t have one, you may use the rosary stored on the shelf of the kneeler to the left of the pews. If you don’t have a rosary, text or call Marilyn at 417-824-4043 and we will get one for you.
A prayer journal - there are many free templates for prayer journals that can be found on the internet. Download one of these or just use a pad of paper.
Your cell phone if you have one - be sure it is on silent. A cell phone may be used in case of a medical or weather-related emergency or if the next scheduled Adorer doesn’t show up. (See the security and emergency procedures outlined below for additional information.)
Bottled water if needed, it is the only food or drink allowed in the chapel.
It is not necessary to bring anything! Christ only wants you!
Should I sit or kneel? May I stand or walk around?
There are four postures for Adoration and prayer: standing, sitting, kneeling and prostration.
If you choose standing or walking around, do so in a manner that will not be distracting to other Adorers who may be in the chapel with you.
If you opt for sitting, it is best to choose a seat away from the windows and close to the Blessed Sacrament. This is especially important for new Adorers. It is easy to get distracted and look out the window at the garden when our focus should be on Adoring and communing with Jesus.
If you prefer kneeling, you may kneel on the floor in front of the Blessed Sacrament or use the kneeler located near the votive candles or the kneelers that are attached to each seat.
Some Adorers prostrate themselves in front of the Blessed Sacrament – this involves the full placement of your entire body on the ground and sometimes involves extending your arms in the form of a cross.
Of course, Jesus will hear your prayers no matter your posture.
Are there guidelines to follow while in the chapel at Adoration? Yes, just a few…
Guard the Tabernacle and the Monstrance by not allowing anyone to touch or move either of them.
Do not place anything on the altar.
Leave the candles burning.
Bow or kneel whenever you are in front of or go past the Blessed Sacrament.
Be mindful of other Adorers in the Chapel. Singing, praying or talking out loud, or walking around the room may be very distracting to other Adorers.
No texting, making personal calls or playing games on your cell phone, this is your’s and other Adorers’ time for adoring and communing with Jesus.
Bring sweaters or wraps - the thermostat in the chapel cannot be reset.
Remember to gather up anything you bring with you and return reading material to the library.
Above all, leave Adoration feeling closer to God and refreshed in spirit!
Is there an inclement weather policy?
Yes!
As a general rule, if Springfield Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions, then Adoration will be suspended for the same time period.
Adoration may be suspended if the weather forecast includes snow, ice or other severe weather.
You will be notified by text or email of any suspension of Adoration by text or email and the These suspensions of Adoration will be posted on this website and on Facebook (search for @DiocesanPerpetualAdoration).
If you are at Adoration and weather conditions become such that you feel your safety and the safety of the Blessed Sacrament may be compromised, call your Division Leader. If you are unable to reach your Division Leader, then refer to the list of emergency contacts found in the 3-ring binder next to the sign in tablet.
What are the safety and security measures in place at the Adoration Chapel?
Measures have been taken by Holy Trinity to ensure your safety. Bright lights illuminate the parking lot, the walkway to the Chapel and all around the exterior of the Chapel. The double doors going into the actual Chapel can be locked from the inside. A keypad lock system will be installed in 2023.
Here are some things you can do:
Park in front of the rectory next to the Handicapped parking space.
When you walk to and from the Chapel after dark, be aware of your surroundings.
Ask the Adorer who is taking your place to watch you walk to your vehicle.
The inner doors into the Chapel may be locked after 10:00pm.
There is a 3-ring binder with the list of Adorers for each hour that is placed next to the sign in tablet. Take a picture or write down the names of Adorers who are scheduled at the same time you are and for the hour following yours. Better yet, take a picture of the names with your cell phone. If you have locked the doors and someone knocks and asks to be let in, look at your list of names to verify that person is an Adorer.
If an individual who is not a scheduled Adorer knocks on the door, you may use your own judgment as to whether you do or do not unlock the door.
If you have a cell phone, take it with you into the Chapel but remember to silence calls and texts.
If there are any activities or disturbances that appear to be out of the ordinary, use your cell phone to call 911.
